How to reset the change oil light on a 2005 Chevrolet Impala.

Hi Steve,

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Impala and I need to reset the "change engine oil"light. I do not have the owners manual.
Can you tell me how to reset the change oil indicator?

Thank you,
John

Hi John,

I can help you reset your change oil light on the Impala. Follow these steps and you light should reset.

1.Get in the car and close all the doors.
2.Turn the key on engine off ( do not start the car ).
3.Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and release it 4 times (you have about 10 seconds to do this)

You do not have to press and release the pedal slowly, just press all the way to the floor and release the pedal. So it will go like this.
Press and release
Press and release
Press and release
On the fourth time press and hold

The change oil light will start to flash or it will just go out. Turn the key off, wait 30 seconds and restart the car. The light should be out. If not then start over and do it again, sometimes it takes more than once to get it reset.

Let me know if you get it reset. There is another way to reset this through pushing a sequence of buttons on the radio as well, but the gas pedal is the easy way to do this.
