The biggest problem caused by fuel burning in the combustion chamber or (The Engine) is carbon build-up. Excessive build-up of carbon can cause all kind of problems, lets take a look.

Here are some examples of problems caused by deposits:

Fuel injector. Deposits at the tip can impact fuel flow, upsetting the air/fuel mixture. Symptoms: hesitation or stumble during acceleration, even loss of power. Increased emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

Intake valve. Deposits on the top can absorb fuel during engine warm up, leaning out the fuel/air mixture. Symptoms: poor driveability, even loss of power. Increased emissions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides.

Combustion chamber. As deposits build there is an increase in compression temperature that can cause auto-ignition of the air/fuel mixture. Symptoms: knocking, pinging, run-on, poor acceleration, octane requirement increase, increased emissions of oxides of nitrogen.

Fuel additives do an excellent job of keeping the fuel injectors clean, the valves and valve guides clean and the combustion chamber clean! YourAutoAdvisor strongly recommends the use of a good quality fuel additive at least once every other month. This will save you hundreds in repair bills in the future!
