2001 Chevrolet Impala . My rotors will not come off?
Hi Steve,
This is my first brake rotor replacement on my 2001 chevrolet impala and
I am finding it impossible to get the brake rotors off. Are they just rusted
on, or am I forgetting to undo something?
I have replaced brake pads and rotors on many other cars before and I thought
this should be the same way, other than maybe some different tools.
Please help if you can!
Jacob
Hi Jacob,
Nothing special here, some cars have a set screw holding the brake rotors
on but I don't see one on a 2001 chevrolet impala in any of my diagrams.
If there is a set screw then you would see it, the screw would be in between
the lug studs in plain sight.
If you see rust on the brake rotors then they are probably rusted on. The
best thing to do is to soak them in a penetrating oil to loosen the rust
.
If you are replacing the brake rotors then you can use a hammer and strike
the rotor (hard) in between the lug studs (be carful not to hit the studs),
put the lug nuts on the studs by hand, this will help protect them from
getting damaged.
They will come off just keep trying, be sure to clean off as much of the
rust as you can on the hub before you install the new brake rotor and pads.
I hope this is the information you are looking for, please ask if you have
