1998 GMC Jimmy - ABS light is on?
Hi Steve,
I have had my 1998 GMC Jimmy for about a year now, and never had any problems what so ever... but about 2 weeks ago, I noticed on the instrument panel that it says ABS? I looked it up in the owners manual and it was the anti-lock brake system.
Every once in a while when I use the brakes it vibrates when I give force on the brake pedal. I kinda figured it was my abs, so I was just wondering on how to fix it?
There are no other problems at all and my truck runs good as new. I have never had any problems at all even though I have alot of miles on it.
I was just wondering how I could fix it and how much would it cost?
Thanks much-
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
The most likely cause of you problem is a bad ABS wheel speed sensor. You
need to have a mechanic scan your ABS system and see what code is stored.
The vibration you are feeling could be the ABS system activating due to
a bad wheel speed sensor or you could have a bad brake pulsation caused
by wharped rotors or drums.
If you find it is a bad wheel speed sensor I offer some great online repair
manuals that can give you step by step instructions and illustrations on
replacing the wheel speed sensor, these online repair manuals are great
and cost as little as $9.99!
If you need more detailed information after you find out what code is causing
your ABS light to come on please let me know.
I hope this is the information you are looking for, please ask if you have
any more questions!
